More than 150 people attended the Global Sourcing Fair held at Istanbul Hilton Bomonti Hotel by Samsung Headquarters. About 50 executives from Samsung Electronics’ offices in South Korea, Poland, the UK, Vietnam, and Thailand met with 32 suppliers who are members of the White Goods Supply Industry Association (BEYSAD) selected and invited by Samsung executives.
At the fair, Samsung executives had meetings with the sourcing teams of the respective companies about sourcing components needed for Samsung white goods from Turkey. The executives had the opportunity to review the samples of the products and components made by the suppliers.
Samsung Electronics Digital Home Appliances Sourcing Manager Bong Chul Park said: “This fair can be seen as the start of a big project. We care very much about coming together with potential suppliers from Turkey and we aim to continue our cooperation after this fair.’’
Bong Chul Park stated that they aim to expand the cooperation planned specifically for certain components of products made in Samsung Poland facilities to the Samsung facilities in the Asian and Latin American countries in the future. On the reason for choosing Turkey for the fair, Bong Chul Park said: “Turkey is the top in Europe and second in the world in white goods production. The country has also a location advantage being situated between Asia and Europe. We believe that Turkey is the right choice for this project to extend our sourcing activities.”
Seeing the event as an important meeting opportunity between the parties, BEYSAD President Ş. Burak Özaydemir said: “We decided that exports and foreign operations are of priority for our members in this period and therefore, we focused our activities on this direction. We cooperated with Samsung to carry out this event by holding meetings in London, Turkey, and Poland. We think that following up the outcomes of this event and periodically repeating it will deliver major contributions for Samsung as well as our members in our sector which has a long-term working approach.”
He also added: “Moreover; we are delighted to bring our members together with Samsung, a global company. Especially the Samsung team and our participating members found the event highly efficient. We were happy to work with them because they are detailed and result-oriented. Samsung came to Turkey for this event with about 50 senior and mid-level professionals, which shows us how big their expectations are of us and therefore of Turkey.’’
