As is known, Türkiye’s first Climate Law—comprising 20 articles, 2 provisional clauses, and amendments to 3 separate laws—has been officially adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM). In light of this significant development, BEYSAD organized an online briefing session on Friday, August 22, with the support of its Sustainability & Environment Platform and the participation of TRAction representatives. The event welcomed approximately 50 attendees.

During the session, Tanyeli Behiç Sabuncu, Climate and Energy Program Manager at WWF-Türkiye and Director of the TRAction Platform, delivered a presentation addressing how the new Climate Change Law will impact industrial companies and what solutions may be considered.

The following key topics were discussed in detail and drew considerable interest from participants:

  • What is a climate law as a regulatory tool? What does it govern, and why is it necessary?
  • Climate risks (physical, regulatory, legal, market-related, etc.)
  • The European Green Deal
  • What should be the core principles and framework of an ideal climate law, based on international examples?
  • What does the current Climate Law introduce? In which areas is it aligned with global standards, and where does it fall short?
  • What changes will the law bring to Türkiye’s established industrial sectors, and when will these changes take effect?
  • What steps should Turkish industry take to comply with the law, and what costs may be anticipated?
  • In brief: If the law’s current shortcomings are addressed, how might its impact on manufacturers differ from today?

We extend our sincere thanks to all BEYSAD members and stakeholders for their participation and valuable contributions.

Together, we are stronger.
